19 Rexburg Temple Pictures: The Field is White

The Rexburg Idaho Temple serves many local citizens as well as scores of college students attending Brigham Young University-Idaho. Standing just across the street from campus,  it is often packed full of individuals, couples, and families seeking special ordinances for themselves or for family members who have passed on.

President Thomas S. Monson dedicated the Rexburg Temple on February 3, 2008. It stands 168 feet and 9 inches tall if you include Angel Moroni at the top. The exterior walls are overlaid with immense panels made of concrete and quartz. Together, all 637 panels add up to around 2,600 tons. The sturdiness of this stunning building of worship is fitting as it provides an anchoring source of peace and comfort to all who attend.

The Rexburg Temple dedicatory prayer states this comfort as one of the building’s important purposes:

“Bless those who come here that they may grow in faith and testimony concerning Thy Beloved Son. May they grow in understanding of Thy eternal purposes... May Thy faithful saints of this and future generations look to this temple as a sanctuary and a place of service to Thee and to Thy children.”

The prayer even includes individuals who do not belong to the Church but who may have visited the Rexburg Temple open house event: “Many not of our faith have previously visited this building. May they reflect on their experience with reverence and appreciation. May they be led, as Thou hast promised, to acknowledge that this is indeed Thy house.”

This part of the prayer is unique to the Rexburg Temple, as, historically, many LDS temple dedicatory prayers are focused on members of the Church and their current struggles.

Our artists and photographers travel the world over to capture inspiring images of LDS temples. With over a hundred temples dotting the earth--with more already announced and under construction--it would be a great feat for anyone to visit all of them. We appreciate their efforts to help bring the temple to all of us when we cannot reach it ourselves.

Enjoy these Rexburg Temple pictures and their tribute to the small yet sincere community of this college town.

Rexburg Temple Pictures: Sunsets and Sunrises

As with many LDS temples, the Rexburg Idaho temple stands on a hill. Its location makes for stunning shots of sunrises and sunsets, as three of our photographers here have demonstrated. The deep colors and peaceful setting invite a sense of hope and a sense of calm.

Rexburg Temple Pictures: Field

A wide field lies across the street from the Rexburg Temple. With nothing but the horizon beyond, this field has been the location of many a wedding or graduation photoshoot. Its nearness to the temple seems almost symbolic, reminding us of the Savior’s teachings in the book of John:

“Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together” (John 4:35-36).

Rexburg Temple Pictures: Flowers

Flowerbeds are one of the hallmarks of any LDS temple, and the Rexburg temple is no exception. Here, Mandy has chosen a purple theme. Historically, the color purple has signified royalty. We appreciate this seemingly simple artistic touch; what better color to represent the house of God?

Rexburg Temple Pictures: Grounds

Temple grounds are dedicated, just as the building’s interior. They offer a quiet place where individuals and families can take time to ponder and reflect on their relationship with God. The trimmed grass and full flowerbeds create a serene environment that can be hard to find in everyday life.

These four Rexburg Temple pictures capture the lovely stretch of green lawn and pristine pavement surrounding this sacred building.

The purpose of any LDS temple is to direct our focus and our hearts to Jesus Christ, the Savior. It reminds us of His love for us and our deep worth as children of God. No matter how dark or gloomy our life may appear, the temple reminds us of what modern-day apostle Jeffrey R. Holland taught:

“However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.”
