Inspiration:

And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. - Matthew 2:6

Ever since visiting this place I wanted to portray the shepherd’s fields in the valley as they were and not on the hill looking down at the city. From this perspective the viewer beholds the beauty and serenity of one of the most honored places on the earth – Bethlehem, the city of Christ’s birth. The sheep and shepherd also provide a rich metaphor of Christ, the Good Shepherd, who watches over and cares for us.
