Emma Hale Smith was given promises and told of her elect status among women through divine revelation. She was honored as the first president of the Relief Society, remembered for her efforts in compiling the original Latter-day Saint hymnal, and revered as the wife of the Prophet, Joseph Smith. Her place among the women of the restored Church cannot be dismissed or underestimated, and it is fitting that she be the central focus of this painting depicting the organization of the Relief Society.
