As I was looking for a good model for Joseph Smith, a brand new missionary was assigned to our ward who was a direct descendant of Edward Partridge, the first bishop of the Church. He was about the same height as Joseph Smith and fit the bill perfectly. I painted this image for a Church competition on the Book of Mormon.

About the Artist:

Simon has quietly sought to celebrate the life and mission of Jesus Christ. His artistic journey began in London, England as a freelance illustrator. In 1997 he entered the world of fine art with the release of "He Lives". Since then, Simon has become known for his exquisitely detailed and delicate portraits capturing moments from the tender to the magnificent. Many marvel at the masterful way he portrays the love and compassion in the face of the Savior and the devotion in the eyes of the believers. Simon lives in Alberta, Canada where he continues to explore new perspectives to inspire and bear witness of eternal principles.
