ART BY LATTER-DAY SAINTS TO GET YOU THINKING ABOUT GENERAL CONFERENCE

October General Conference is just around the corner! And not a moment too soon. With this year’s sessions being remote, now is the perfect time to create an environment in your home for an inspiring weekend.

Few things contribute to a room’s environment the way artwork can. It has a way of encapsulating our emotions and experiences that we can draw from again and again. Today, we want to share some of our favorite LDS artwork to help you feel inspired for the October 2020 General Conference.

Lead, kindly light

Elder David A. Bednar explained that revelation, even for him as an apostle, often comes in increments:

"There's enough to just take a few steps. And then the light continues to help me see just far enough ahead that I can continue to press forward."

In a time when there are so many conflicting ideas and confusing events happening, we can remember that God still speaks through His prophet.

He wants to guide us “amid the encircling gloom.”

Promise of Temple Blessings

For many people, being unable to attend the temple is one of the most challenging things about the recent pandemic.

The temple serves as a place of safety and calm--something a lot of us could use right now. However, as President Nelson reminded us during this year’s April General Conference:

“Brothers and sisters, during times of our distress when temples are closed, you can still draw upon the power of your temple covenants and endowment as you honor your covenants.”

Invite thoughts and conversations about the temple by making them a part of your home.

“Focus on Him”

Have you heard about the theme for the October 2020 General Conference? With so much commotion happening worldwide, the First Presidency has chosen a focus that is simple and hopeful: Jesus Christ. They recently announced that:

“We will focus on Him by elevating our use of the name He revealed for His restored Church. We will recognize major events of the ongoing Restoration to celebrate our history and future. We will become even more ‘converted unto the Lord’ and invite all to come and find enduring joy on His covenant path.”

Many of our best pieces come from artists expressing their love for the Savior through their painting and other talents. Their unique styles illustrate that Christ’s relationship with each of us is personal. The Savior knows how to succor each of us individually as we face life’s myriad of challenges. His arm is outstretched, He only waits for us to trust Him.

Art can have such a personal meaning, for the artist as well as the audience. It has the power to lift our thoughts above the immediate world around us, which can draw us closer to God. It invites the spirit and helps us make our homes a haven from the spiritual storms going on in the world today.

And don't worry; we publish art, not spam. In line with many principles of art, we believe good things come in small doses.
