In Acts chapter 1, we read about Christ’s ascension into heaven after His resurrection. I chose to paint this scene from the perspective of the apostles, gazing steadfastly upward at their Savior for the last time. It was while the apostles stood looking upward that two personages, clothed in white, appeared by them and spoke to them saying, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven (verse 11).
