Sacrament Meeting by Doc Christensen
About this Image:
Doc has said of this painting This painting was unique from its very beginning. It would be great if I could take credit for the composition and message it conveys but in my mind, that would be like Moses taking credit for bringing water from the stone in the desert. Usually when I have an idea for a painting it starts as a simple seed and it grows as I play with the image in my mind, but this painting was different. I was sitting in church on a Sunday afternoon as the Sacrament was being passed and bang, there it was, the image was instantaneously placed before my mind's eye just as you see it here. This experience has happened to me only three times and it has been very special each time.
About the Artist:
DOC O. CHRISTENSEN was raised on a dairy farm in Merced, California, where he spent a lot of time learning to draw. At a young age, his mother soon introduced him to oil painting. Later on in life, he gained experience as a technical illustrator. Both accuracy and beauty are apparent in each of his works, his best known being The Portrait of the Prophets. Doc's religious art so far carries two main themes: Jesus Christ as the Savior, and the everyday commitment of believers choosing to live His gospel. Among his unique works, you will see scenes of valiant missionaries, faithful pioneers, modern-day families, and meaningful church service.
