About This Image:
I had wanted to depict the Salt Lake Temple in an etching style for some time. I chose that style because it expresses the scene as if it was created close to the time period of the temple's dedication.

I also had the idea for a ray of light breaking through the clouds to shine on the temple. The scene would have to be in the morning for the sunray to be realistic, illuminating the east and south sides of the temple. That meant that the viewpoint would have to be from the east bank of City Creek Canyon.

For reference, I researched at the Latter-day Saint Church Library and found a photo of the temple near its dedication in 1893. The composition of this piece combines the look of that photo with my idea of the ray of light. To me the temple is a place of light in reality and metaphorically.
