This piece captures a small and intimate everyday moment between a mother and child, although it was originally intended to include the Wise Men in this image. The name of this piece, Hope of Israel comes from a familiar hymn; however, the context is used very differently in the song, in which the hope of Israel is Zion’s army. But in the context of this painting, Christ is the hope of Israel, the hope of all nations, who will save the world.
