Blessed Among Women by Simon Dewey

Inspiration:

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. - Luke 1:28

While Christ was singular in history in His mission and ministry, Mary also was unique and blessed among all women in her sacred responsibility and the faithful way in which she carried it out. My first religious painting portrayed Mary and the Christ Child, using my own firstborn son as the model. I titled it My Son, My Savior. Over the many years since then I have wanted to create a painting that captured the humility and devotion Mary must have felt when faced with the realization she was to bring our Savior into the world.
