Come Ye to Bethlehem

Inspiration:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. - Luke 2:8

I painted this picture for the book "This Is the Season: Beloved of the Year." In it, I needed to show the shepherds who followed the star. I included lambs in the picture both because the star was a sign of the birth of Christ, the Lamb of God, and also because Christ was born in the springtime. Because Christmas is especially exciting and important for children, I included the young boy pointing out the sign of the dear Savior’s birth. I thought that, like children eagerly awaiting Christmas morning, this young shepherd eagerly looked to the birth of the Savior.
