HEAR HIM: 9 INSPIRING PICTURES OF JESUS CHRIST

This is one of our newer paintings of Jesus Christ by Jay Bryant Ward. It reminds us that the Savior of the world trusts us with an important errand. 

Once we experience the blessings and goodness of His truth, He encourages us to lift those around us. We may feel small, like the child in the painting, and the task may appear overwhelming, but He is ever by our side.

Our artist Jorge Cocco has a beautiful style all his own that he calls “sacrocubism”. Jorge uses the abstract cubism to communicate messages that run deeper than visual details or realistic accuracy. In this piece, he depicts the stormy night when the Savior approached His apostles on the water. 

Like the apostles, it is easy for us to feel afraid when the storms of life seem much bigger than what our boat can handle, but this story illustrates the reality that Christ never abandons us.

Simon Dewey is well known for his picturesque, smooth artwork. In this picture of Jesus Christ, there are many symbols of hope. 

The soft light shining behind Christ, the warm expression on his face, and even the shepherd's rod all remind us that with the Savior there is always hope for change and healing.

Watercolor painter Justine Peterson takes a unique approach in her pictures of Jesus. In this painting, Justine depicts Him as if he were walking directly in front of us, beckoning us to follow Him. It calls to mind the comforting verses in the book of Matthew:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me: for I am meek and lowly in heart: ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Refuge depicts Christ in a desert landscape standing with his arms outstretched. 

His calm expression and the title of the work remind us that in our personal desert, Christ is the living water. It is our choice whether or not to come to Him, but his arms are open. 

As we read in Revelations: 

“For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.” 

With so much commotion and conflict happening in the world right now, it is natural to feel afraid. We may feel like we have no direction or that things may not go back to how they were before so much tragedy happened.

However, Christ promises us that this is not the end. Lightweave’s optimistic picture of Jesus Christ matches His teachings to His early apostles and to us:

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

When Christ was on the earth, an enormous part of his ministry was serving those around Him--especially those who were often shunned or overlooked. 

While the Savior showed strength and unbending resolve when it came to the Father’s commandments, the service He gave was always gentle and without fanfare. 

Robert Pack expertly captures that sense of human softness and concern in each of his pictures of Jesus Christ.

In this touching picture of Jesus, we see Him visiting with a group of children. The title of the piece suggests He is showing them his scars from the crucifixion, and yet Jesus is smiling. 

The Savior chose to give His life for us as an act of love. While it is impossible to repay such a gift, we can be like the children in the picture: humble, accepting, and willing to grow.

Anointed, by definition, means chosen for an important position. Jesus Christ is the anointed Savior of the world. 

In this picture of Jesus Christ, Joseph Brickey's focus is on the Savior. The background is simple, and Joseph is able to capture a sense of the Savior’s steady strength and wisdom. 

We can rely on that strength, especially when we are feeling too weak or lost on our own.
