Seattle Temple Pictures: Looking to Heaven
The Seattle LDS Temple is easily recognized by its tall steeple. Of course, most LDS Temples are designed with one or more striking steeples to direct the eye to heaven, but not all appear nearly equal in height with the building itself as with the Seattle Washington Temple.
There are many interesting things about the Seattle Temple, not the least of which is the dedication. It directly reflects the concerns and worries many of us face in modern society.
The Seattle Temple dedicatory prayer is unique. It was given in 1980 and while many dedicatory prayers express gratitude for freedoms and ask a blessing on the heads of national leaders, the Seattle Temple prayer also shares some of the concerns of our modern-day. It asks for Heaven’s aid on behalf of the growing sense of conflict between individuals and nations.
Even now many of us, regardless of our religious beliefs, feel uncertain about the future. However, our God is not a God of fear, but of faith. In the New Testament, we read: “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).
We can draw faith and hope draw from this special prayer:
“Father, we are concerned with the condition of the world of today and that nations seem to need only the striking of a spark to bring war and desolation and destruction. Bless, we pray Thee, the leaders of nations, that they may rule wisely and righteously, and give Thy people everywhere freedom to worship Thee.”
The Temple reminds us that we are God’s children. It reminds us that, while we live in a fallen world, He is never far and is willing to comfort us and guide us throughout our challenging journey. Most importantly, perhaps, it teaches that this life is not the end. We are eternal beings who can one day experience healing and reunite with family members and loved ones who have passed on.
That is why we absolutely love Temple art and photography. Many of our professionals do their best to capture and share the feelings of warmth, belonging, and peace they experience when visiting the sacred temple grounds.
