About this Image:
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. - Isaiah 57:15
Humility is vital. If one cannot be humble enough to learn, one cannot make progress. I began this series to understand my sons and their journey. I chose the use of birds since they are inclusive to all people and cultures. When we come to this step, we rest on the Savior and ask for removal of our weaknesses. The bird shown here is a powerful hawk. But no matter how strong we think we are, recovery is not possible alone. This red-tailed hawk is accustomed to being the predator in life. He has thought his strength was enough, even over addiction. Here, we see that resting on the cross, or in this case, the powerlines, can enable one to regain strength to move forward. The powerlines are an obvious symbol of Christ as the power in our lives. The lost feathers represent the shedding of our pride. The stars are wishes that seem so out of reach. But with this knowledge that we can't do all things, unless we have help, we can indeed recover.
About the Artist:
For CARIN FAUSETT, art has never been an escape from reality; it's been her connection to it. As a child, she grew up wearing hearing aids and thick glasses. She could see the color and movement around her but was cut off from life. Art has allowed her to connect with people; especially as a mother of two recovering addicts. Young people today face immense feelings of isolation and failure. Through her art, Carin communicates these deep emotions and struggles. And with it, an enduring message of hope.
